Lead Test Equipment/Industrial Automation Technician

We are adding to our team and seek a highly experienced and proactive Test Equipment / Industrial Automation Technician to lead the build and integration of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems at our Pontiac, MI facility. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of advanced automotive and industrial automation technologies, contributing to the development of innovative testing solutions that support next-generation systems. As a technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive excellence in ATE system design, build execution, and process optimization. You’ll play a key role in shaping in how tools and methodologies are applied to real-world engineering challenges, while mentoring others and ensuring the highest standards of quality.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and supervise the assembly, wiring, and integration of ATE systems based on drawings and BOMs.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior technicians and contractors.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure timely and accurate integration of ECUs, sensors, actuators, and other components.
  • Review, maintain and approve wiring diagrams, schematics, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct advanced system-level testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of ATE setups.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for build and test issues.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across multiple ATE builds and projects.
  • Create or update build processes with organizational standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance build efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of build procedures, modifications, and test results.
  • Support planning and resource allocation for ATE build activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in ATE systems, industrial automation, or electrical panel assembly.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with tools and equipment for wiring, soldering, and testing.
  • Familiarity with CAN, LIN, and other automotive communication protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ATE platforms such as NI or dSPACE.
  • Knowledge of electrical diagrams and design tools such as Rapid Harness or E3.
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages for automation/testing.
  • Experience with quoting projects and organizing/maintaining shop floor areas.
